Our Beginnings

Penn Valley is a small township located in the famed sierra foothills adjacent to Grass Valley with a population of not more then 5000 residents. To the East is famous Nevada city, formally the Capitol of California during the Gold Rush in the mid 1800's and to the west and south lies the states current capital of Sacramento. Penn Valley is blessed with with some of the most beautiful rivers in the world including, Yuba, bear and America rivers.

The historic nature of the area is impressive. Gold Was discovered in the area in 1849 setting off the great California gold rush and establishing the west Coast of California to be an economic power house. Beautiful Lake Tahoe is located but an hour to the east, Sacramento, an hour to the west and San Francisco an easy 3 hour drive to the north west. The climate is ideal for grape growing and wine making as a typical day includes cool fog in the morning, bright and warm sun during the day followed by cooling breezes in the late afternoon

  • Altitude: Located 1500 feet above sea level and just below the snow line.
  • Temperature: annual average temperature is around 90°F. In summer, the day time temperature rises to 40 °C, and at night time, it falls to less than 20 °C
  • Precipitation: annual precipitation is around 456mm. In the grapes maturing season (July & August), the precipitation is only around 270mm

Humidity: Dry climate which allows us to grow grapes without the use of fungicides or pesticides.
